Performative Urbanism: Trading
Presentation by George Katodrytis on Performative Urbanism: Trading at the IAARA (International Art and Architecture Research Association) Workshop on Management and Design of the City at the School of Architecture and Design, American University of Sharjah,
October 31, 2006:
“Architecture and Urbanism need to confront the massiveness of a new urban experience, the overwhelming presence of megalomanic architectures and infrastructures in today’s cities, and the overwhelming logic of utility that organizes much of the investment in cities. Its spaces are inscribed with the dominant corporate culture but also with a multiplicity of other sub-cultures, notably through nomadic populations and that of street trading. Dubai is turning into a huge business-meet-leisure park. Paradoxically, the city concentrates diversity”.
