Harvard Design School: Dubai Conglomerated
Presentation by George Katodrytis during the conference Dubai Conglomerated: The Urban Planning and Design Challenges to Building a City of Many Cities, April 18-19, 2003, Harvard Graduate School of Design.

“Hybrid City Despite its apparent artificiality, Dubai’s hybrid and complex urbanism has an invisible and unique infrastructure, and a non-hierarchical system of activities, goods, and participants. More than a static collection of buildings, Dubai can be described as a piling-up of activities that change more quickly than construction/planning can respond. Existing buildings seem unable to sustain this dynamic, complex and fluid “urban condition.” Yet, Architecture must always invent strategies for the construction of space, and mirror the experience of contemporary urban life.”
