George will give a presentation Performative Luminance at the Lighting at Middle East Electricity Masterclass Programme on Monday February 12, 2007, at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
Performative Luminance
Multitude Intelligence is the property of a system whereby the collective behaviors of (unsophisticated) entities interacting locally with their environment cause systematic functional global patterns to emerge. The city is full of small bits of energy and light sources that make up a global illumination system. By utilizing the local matrix, it is possible to re-invent urban lighting. The paper will present design projects of mapping, projecting, extracting and utilizing existing urban light and luminance to create architectural proposals in the UAE. This new approach to urbanism addresses the collective adaptation of a social community to a cultural (environmental, contextual) or media informational dynamical landscape and utilizes several three-dimensional mathematical functions that change over time.
