The Architectural Association of the UAE [AAUAE] is a non-profit association aimed at integrating the design community in the UAE. It will provide a forum for dialogue and networking across all design disciplines, with a primary focus on the architectural environment and act as a driver for design excellence.

Through a series of events, lectures and awards programmes the Association proposes to raise public awareness of the need to maintain high architectural standards to achieve lifestyle sustainability in a country that has the chance to build its future now.

Launch event
On 15 November, select representatives of the architecture and design community in the UAE gathered at an elegant hotel restaurant in Jumeirah to launch a new initiative, AA UAE, for architects and designers in the UAE. The AA UAE will be a forum for architects, designers, and related design disciplines to stimulate debate and increase the level of dialogue and discourse among professionals of the architecture and design disciplines, developers and the public community at large. The chic event, sponsored by Poltrona Frau, a high end European furniture designer, was attended by about 50 of the leading architects, interior designers, members of the media and notable academia members from the Amercian University in Sharjah. The event started with a presentation by the AA UAE founders (Kashani Wijetunga/KEO, Hisham Youssef/ Gensler, Firas Alsalih/ Ishtar Design, George Katodrytis/AUS, Ghazal Sabetnia/KEO – all design professionals with major firms in the UAE) was complemented by a presentation of the group’s proposed activities and objectives. Following the presentation the group engaged in a stimulating and lively debate about the objectives of this initiative and future events. The group plans a busy agenda over the next few months based on bimonthly sponsored events with speakers, moderated panel discussions and an annual award ceremony.
